How NYT Strands works
Each puzzle hides a set of theme words inside a grid of letters, all connected to a daily topic. Trace the letters in order, in any direction, to spell them out. One special answer, the spangram, touches two opposite sides of the board and names the puzzle's theme.
You don't need to solve the spangram first. Finding a few regular theme words often makes the theme obvious, and the spangram falls into place from there. Our daily page gives you a nudge toward the theme before it shows any words.
